When I first saw the eccentric girl with the radish earrings and butterbeer cork necklace in Order of the Phoenix, I was concerned that Jo might be introducing a caricature. Luna's many eccentricities made me worry that she was only going to be part of the story as a bit of comic relief, and not a fully-realized character in her own right.
But oh, how wrong first impression can be! Sure, Luna is eccentric, but she's so many other things as well...
Brave - when students who ought to know better (hem hem Seamus hem hem) are turning their backs on Harry in OOTP, she stands by him.
Honest - The fact that she invariably says what she means is an unusual and remarkable trait. Many of us tell "little white lies" for a variety of reasons, but nothing ever comes out of Luna's mouth but the unvarnished truth.
Inquisitive - She's always striving to learn. She wants to experience things first hand. A true Ravenclaw, through and through, though with none of the arrogance that sometimes accompanies the singleminded thirst for knowledge.
Loyal - The scene in Deathly Hallows where we see her room and how she's lovingly painted her friends' faces - "friends" - never fails to bring tears to my eyes.
So tell me, why do YOU love Luna? _________________

| She's so amazingly unselfish. Even when she was imprisoned in a horrible place she thinking of others. |

my favorite Luna moment from DH is when she gave Harry the strength to keep on going during the battle when he couldn't make a Patronus to ward off the demontors. i can't remember the lines, and i'm at work, so i don't have my book on me, but it just brings a big smile to my face thinking about it. _________________ **let us step into the night and persue that flighty temptress, adventure** |
